Europe Day 4: 10/18/2008

After breakfast at Casa Des Sandes, we walked to another train station a little further away to take a different train out of Lisbon. We went to Cais de Sodre to take a train to Cascais. Cascais and Estoril are these beautiful resort/beach towns 45 minutes outside of Lisbon. The entire train ride was beautiful as our train made its way down the tracks alongside the coast. Estoril and Cascais are only about a stop away from each other so we decided to just go to Cascais that day. It was an adorable town, quite crowded, with the most awesome view. Dad met a man who told him that we should have lunch at the mall food court because that’s where all the locals go..haha. So, we did! We sat outside on the top of the mall and had a view of the Atlantic and everything. We walked around the Marina and saw the fisherman pulling their nets in off their boats. Dad wanted to walk to this ”mouth of hell” thing and so it was quite a long, hot, walk but we were alongside the ocean the entire time. When we got there, it was totally worth it. It’s too bad we couldn’t be there for high tide to really experience it but it was still quite a site to see. The resorts along that walk are something else. The hotels are beautiful, like something you would see on the Cote d’Azur and we’re almost sure that it isn’t half as expensive. We enjoyed Cascais so much that we decided to kill a little time (in Euorpe, this means having a coke at a café facing the Atlantic—rough, I know) and have dinner here. We ate at this very modern Italian restaurant that was fantastic. We had tried to find this restaurant that was recommended in Frommer’s guide but we weren’t able to find it! Oh well, we discovered a place on our own that we will surely go back to!
