barbeque[bahr-bi-kyoo]
1. California: any kind of outdoor picnic where food is cooked on the grill
2. Texas: ribs, sausage, brisket, maybe chicken with BBQ sauce
cooking out [kook-ing][out]
1. California: ???
2. Texas: burgers, hot dogs
And so, the confusion began. Apparently, we use the term "BBQ" in California quite loosely. I have since learned the difference and I'm trying to tweak my vocabulary...at least around my master grillin' husband. So, last night, we cooked out with Jerren. We put some marinated chicken and fresh corn on the cob on the grills in our apartment complex and it was a beautiful night out there.
After dinner, I was so excited to start a baking adventure with this new wedding present:
My auntie Kat gave this to us at the San Francisco shower and she is a really good baker herself. She said that the pan was pretty much fool proof.
I found a recipe for a chocolate bundt cake and it was so simple. The worst part of the recipe is waiting the 55 minutes bake time and 30 minute cool time. Finished product, worth the wait!
After a dusting of confectioner's sugar and raspberries:
Aaron brought the cake into his work and everyone loved it! Aaron's co-worker actually went online to Williams Sonoma to buy the pan! Here's what was left of it (and he brought it home, woo hoo!)
Can't wait to dig in. The downside of cake baking is that you can't sneak a taste.
In other news, Aaron also came home with a coffee table today! His co-worker had posted a listing on Craigslist and after seeing it, we decided that it would work great for us.
One of our easiest purchases ever. I dug threw a box and found our coasters, too. Hook Em Horns!
We're getting excited for a lazy, relaxing 4th...there will be cooking out, lots of sunshine, sweet tea, maybe another bundt cake, and a new lawn game set we got today that is bocce bean bags, washers, and bean bag toss all in one! Yay, Target and yay, giftcards!
Happy (almost) birthday, America!
