Honeymoon in Cancun!

So what follows such a perfect wedding day? An unbelievable honeymoon!


As most of you know, our honeymoon was a surprise. Aaron picked the location, made the plans, worked with Kate, my MOH, to pack, AND managed to keep it a secret from me until the day that we left. It was so fun to not know where we were going and I'm so glad that we did it that way and I highly recommend it! (Kate may feel differently; she was a TROOPER to pack for me for a whole week!)

Aaron was relieved to finally reveal the secret location so that he could tell me about all the cool stuff we were going to have access to. We had flights on Mexicana direct from LAX to Cancun. As it turned out, the resort was located in Riviera Maya, just 15 minutes or so by car from the Cancun airport. So, we got off the plane and got our bags and there was a man holding a placard with Aaron's name on it. From there, a car was called for us and we drove to the resort, the Excellence Riviera Cancun. When we arrived at the resort, I could not believe how beautiful it was! Someone opened our car door and the next thing we knew, we were handed champagne and a wet towel to refresh ourselves...talk about luxury! From there, we were led to the Excellence Club lounge because Aaron had paid for us to be in the more fancy Excellence Club. At the lounge we met Victor, our concierge who welcomed us, offered us more champagne or any other drink or appetizer/canape from the lounge and then he began to introduce us to the resort. He explained that our package included fresh flowers and fruit in our room, breakfast in bed one morning of our choice, dinner on the beach one evening of our choice, and a couples massage and hydrotherapy session. In addition, the Excellence resort is an all inclusive resort so food, drinks, 24 hour room service, and some other activities were all included and at our disposal! After our orientation with Victor, we went up to our room with the bellman and it was so beautiful!

Here is a recap of our awesome honeymoon week in a nutshell:

FOOD! There were a ton of different restaurants to choose from for dinner but each one closes a different night of the week. There was Spice (Asian), Barcelona (Mediterranean), The Lobster House (guess!), The Grill (American, I guess?), Toscana (Italian), Oregano (Pizza and Pasta), Chez Isabelle (French)...and don't forget the 24 hour room service! We tried all of them but Oregano and our favorites, for dinner, were Agave (they had the BEST chips and guacamole) and Chez Isabelle was really good too.

For lunch, the options were a bit more limited because just Oregano, Barcelona, The Grill, and the Lobster House were open. We only had lunch at the restaurants twice because they served food poolside and you didnt have to leave the sun for that!

We had breakfast in our room the first day but we quickly learned that room service was a bit on the slow side. One of my favorite things about room service at the resort was the X closet in our room. It was a little cabinet that had 2 doors: 1 in our room and 1 outside. When you are done with yoru dishes, you put them in the X closet and so the staff doesn't have to come into your room to get them. Genius! Anywho, we started to go to breakfast at Barcelona/Toscana because the spread was ridiculous and we were always up in the morning in time for breakfast anyway. It was more food than we knew what to do with: fresh patries, bread, omelet bar, cut fresh fruit, cereal, all kinds of drinks, beans, eggs, potatoes, sausange...every single breakfast (and really, non breakfast food) you could think of! What a way to start a day right?

It was an altogether relaxing, beautiful, amazing experience...way better than I could have ever dreamed of. Perfect honeymoon, perfect planner husband, perfect start to this very blessed relationship.

Yay, I'm all caught up! That is exciting but today is 100% about my sweet best friend and Maid of Honor Kate. She is more than I could ask for in a friend and I look forward to celebrating all the rest of our birthdays together. I love you!
