Happy weekend! One word sums up our day yesterday: baseball! We got up early for Aaron's second to last t-ball game at Malibu High. We grabbed some breakfast on the way up there and spent the morning with the cuties. They played the Red Sox and I had a good time sitting with the Moms and listening to the kids talk to each other in the lineup (my favorite part). I only took one picture this time and it makes me smile thinking about how it sums up the whole morning:
After the game, we ran some errands and then Aaron went to the Pepperdine baseball game against Santa Clara. His old roommate Brett was going and taking his brother who was visiting, so Aaron met them there for about an hour while I went to work out on campus.
After that game, we headed back home to get ready for an impromptu trip. A little back story. On Friday at about 11am, I got an email from Aaron asking what I thought about going to San Diego this weekend. Aaron's friend from high school is a pitcher for the Cincinatti Reds and the Reds were playing the San Diego Padres Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Friday night was out of the question with work and dinner plans we had with our friends Randy and Christie Herndon, and Sunday was out because of church, a baptism, and dinner with my brother, so that left Saturday night. We moved a few things around that we had planned on doing this weekend and so at about 3:30, we left Santa Monica for the game. We packed an overnight bag just in case we were too tired to drive back (yay for being married now and impromptu overnight trips!) and we hit the road. We made one stop at the Carlsbad outlets (I have the best husband) and then arrived at Petco not long after that. Aaron's friend, Daniel Ray Herrera, had put tickets at will call for us so we got them and headed to our seats. Here's the view from our seats:
We were really enjoying the game but the big question was whether or not we would actually get to see Danny Ray pitch. Aaron spotted him right away in the bullpen and a few times, we saw him get up and we got our hopes up that he was coming in. We decided to move a little closer (there were lots of empty seats) and in the bottom of the 8th, with bases loaded and a pitcher that walked a player home to tie up the game, Danny Ray made his way onto the field:
He threw 4 pitches total and with the bases loaded and a tie score, Danny Ray struck out Brian Giles! Yeah, #52!!!
Before the pinch hitter came in to bat for him, we snapped some pictures of his name on the scoreboard:
This isn't our favorite picture but proof we were there and can you see that it was the 11th inning, per the scoreboard in the background?
The game actually lasted 16 innings(!) but, thankfully, we were
already almost home by the end of the game. We slept really well last night but it was obviously 100% worth the trip.
Hope everyone had a great weekend!
